Throw out the rusty nose work slider tins you've been using for hides and switch to our Magnetic Odor Box with a sliding top and optional engraved odor identifier.
The Magnetic Odor Box is perfect for working with your dog on indoor or outdoor hides. Unlike metal tins and containers, these nose work vessels won't rust. Each box comes with a built-in rare earth neodymium magnet with 6.6 lbs. of pull so it can be attached to any ferromagnetic metal surface or object. The magnet (located on the bottom of the box) is designed so that it's held in place by friction once we push it into place with a special tool. Because no adhesives are used to fasten the magnet, no unwanted odor is added to the vessel.
The box has a sliding top with holes to vent the odor, and the top clicks into place so the box is securely closed.
Scent Identifier: As an added feature, you can choose to get the Magnetic Odor Box with an initial engraved into the bottom of the vessel to represent the odor you are going to use in that vessel (A for Anise, B for Birch, C for Clove, or Cy for Cypress). No more using messy markers or trying to stick on labels.
Colors: We have a number of different colors so you can place hides that either blend in with the environment or are highly visible to your dog. We try to keep as many colors in stock as possible, but if you are in a hurry for your order and we don't have a particular color available to ship immediately, you can specify a second choice color. Orders can be delayed by 3 to 4 days if we have to do a new 3D print run for a color.
Dimensions: Compartment is 1 7/8"L x 15/16"W x 3/8"H. With the top on, the container is 2"L x 15/16"W x 7/16"H. It is very close to the size of a standard metal tin except that the top adds a tiny bit of extra width and height.

Our nose work vessels are made of PLA (Polylactic Acid) filament which is a recyclable, natural thermoplastic polyester derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugar cane.
While PLA itself in its pure form is odorless, nontoxic, and considered food-safe, PLA filament is usually not because manufacturers use additives to make it tougher and print better, dyes for bright colors, etc. We researched to find materials that have certification documents showing they've been tested for toxicity and also that they are made with nontoxic dyes.
Here are some important tips for use and care of our nose work vessels:
- You can leave Q-tips in the vessel for short periods, but don't store them in the vessel for long periods. Essential oils react to ALL surfaces they come in contact with which can cause training problems because the reaction changes how the odor smells. Periodically change your Q-tips and clean the vessel.
- The vessels are NOT dishwasher-safe. They should be hand-washed in warm water (if your hands are not comfortable in the water, it's too hot!) using liquid dish soap. Towel dry or air dry.
- You can also clean out your vessels by wiping the inside with an 70% + isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
- Temperatures above 110 degrees Fahrenheit can warp products made from PLA so do not leave the vessels in direct sunlight or a hot vehicle for long periods of time.
