Imagine having reliable control over your dog – regardless the level of distractions in the environment – while entering and exiting the ring, navigating the course, and spectating or walking around the venue.

Control, engagement, and focus are essential skills for a performance dog to have in training and competition venues for safety reasons, to avoid stress (both yours and the dog's), and to perform successfully. When we struggle to control our dogs with collars, leashes, muscles, and even friends, it takes away from our overall performance. A frantic dog cannot think and an exhausted and frustrated handler cannot perform at their top potential. It also takes away from your ability to concentrate on your handling if you're worrying about whether your dog will really stay at the start line, the child eating ice cream by the ring, or where the leash runner has put your leash at the exit. Obedience is as critical a part of the sport as weaving or jumping.

Forget the myth that obedience kills drive – Donna Savoie will prove that when you cue "heel," your dog will be a happy, enthusiastic partner, moving in sync with you. And when you say "stay," your pup will be vibrating with excitement, ready to spring into action but staying put, awaiting your command.

Through this course you can achieve

  • Calm and focused off-leash movement in heel position to the start line and from the finish line to the exit
  • A brilliant and reliable start line stay so you can lead out feeling calm and confident
  • A reliable recall
  • Focus and control while you're talking to your coach or chatting with fellow handlers
  • Commitment to task whether it's a calm down-stay while spectating or walking outside to stretch or eliminate
  • The ability to ignore tempting distractions around the ring like ring crew, other dogs, and even the kid's ice cream cone!
  • A rock-solid “leave it” since there are always toys and snacks on the floor, especially near the starting and ending gates.

You will find that when you and your dog are engaging with each other, you are a team that is ready to meet any challenge because you're working on the same thing together, thinking about the task at hand together, and enjoying each other's company together.
