Voted 2008 Best Dog Behavior DVD by the Association of Animal Behavior Professionals! Leslie McDevitt's versatile Control Unleashed® program is designed to teach dogs and puppies how to relax, focus, and work off leash reliably in stimulating and stressful situations. Instead of using up their energy by getting distracted, excited, or worried about the things going on around them, dogs and puppies learn how to use their energy for focusing on you and the task at hand.

Rather than using traditional attention and control techniques that often fail in highly charged performance situations, Control Unleashed® uses a creative and sensible series of training games that can be customized to the needs of each particular dog. The Control Unleashed® program also stresses the importance of balancing attention and control work with letting your dog "be a dog."

This 4-disc DVD set is intended to be used as a companion to the training information and instructions contained in the book, Control Unleashed: Creating a Focused and Confident Dog. It contains portions of a two-day foundation seminar where Leslie McDevitt works with dogs training in one or more dog sports that are:

  • Uncomfortable or unable to work off lead around other dogs
  • Easily distracted and have difficulty concentrating
  • Reactive and easily aroused
  • Stressed and shut down
  • Unable to control their impulses when excited

The DVD includes demonstrations for teaching the Look at That! game, mat work, reorienting points, the Whiplash Turn game, Leave It, box work, and more. Learn about reading dogs, building focus, changing attitudes, customizing the Control Unleashed® approach for different dogs, and dealing with real life situations.

About the Author
Leslie McDevitt, MLA, CDBC, CPDT is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. In 1998, Leslie rescued Gordie, an American Pit Bull/GSD cross that had been badly abused, and in trying desperately to help him through his crushing anxieties and fears, met her inspiration and mentor, world-renowned veterinary behaviorist Dr. Karen Overall. Through Gordie, Leslie found her calling and devoted herself completely to becoming a dog trainer, and later, a behavior consultant. Leslie was volunteering at urban shelters and studying behavior and clicker training when she caught the dog sports bug and started agility and flyball training with her terrier mix Maggie. Her work with anxious, reactive, impulsive, and aggressive dogs gave her a unique perspective when she became a student of dog sports training.

"This DVD is SO VERY well done! I've watched the first two discs and the audio is excellent, the editing is smooth and the menus are easy to manage. I've spent a lot of money over the years on DVDs and videos with dreadful sound and editing that have been frustrating to watch and very disapointing in spite of good content. It's priced very fairly too. Great job and worth the wait. Kudos to you and to the CR crew for all the heart and soul that went into this project."

"The DVD beautifully complements the book and enables trainers who are visually oriented to see Leslie's creative insights and techniques in action. CU opens doors that many of us with "exceptional" dogs never would have thought possible."

"A perfect complement to the book, the DVD demonstrates visually how to observe our dog’s behavior and then help our dog become skillful in acquiring tools for making the world a more comfortable place for him."

"The CU classes I’m teaching rocked last night! Seeing the DVD makes such a difference! I’m learning the most by the things I hear Leslie saying to the dogs as she works with them!"

"The DVD is the perfect complement to the CU book and an asset for every handlers toolbox, experienced and inexperienced alike. The CU training method offers benefits for all dogs whether pets or performance champions. Our first agility title likely would have been only a dream without the aid of CU. Two paws up!"

"This DVD is a must-have for any professional trainer dog, sport related or otherwise. I have seen reactive dogs, assistance dogs, and sport dogs go through dramatic behavior changes as the result of the CU program. The games Leslie has created to replace stress with training success are a foundation to any good training."

"The dogs in the seminar show such a wide variety of personalities that everyone will be able to relate to at least one dog in the group. There are ‘stress up’ and ‘stress down’ dogs, overenthusiastic dogs, independent dogs, and somewhat clingy dogs. Each type of personality is worked with in a slightly different way all within the same CU structure."

"I loved the DVD! It was even better than I thought it would be and that’s saying a lot! Watching the exercises gave them the added dimension I needed to deepen the CU work I do with my own dogs. It’s not often a seminar presenter is so open to changing things mid-stream to make them work better for that particular dog."
